Can Radiation Therapy Be Started A Month After Cancer Surgery?
I had a complete hysterectomy for Stage 1B uterine cancer. It will be four weeks since my surgery next Tuesday. It was suggested that I have radiation one day a week for four weeks. Is it too soon to start next Thursday. I had laproscopic surgery. I am 63.
The ideal time for starting radiotherapy after surgery is between 3-6 weeks. The earlier it is started the better it is from the point of view of controlling the disease. 4 weeks is the usual time when it is started. So, if you have completed recovered from the surgery as in all the stitches have been removed, and you are taking a normal diet and are up and about, then there is no reason for you to delay radiotherapy.
