Can Random Leg Cramps Occur Due To Excess Exercise, Calories Or Candy?
Although I am a very physically active person, I sometimes get a series of excrutiating leg cramps...usually in several parts of one leg and with hardly any motion triggering them...in the morning before I get out of bed!! This only happens now and then, but I d like to be able to stop it, if there is an identifiable cause---too much exercise, too much candy, too many calories...???? Any clues welcome.
General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM. I have gone through your query. Cramps can be due to electrolyte imbalance. This can happen due to excessive sweating or gastro intestinal loss. Taking enough potassium rich foods like banana or dates will be helpful. Other cause is vitamin D deficiency. In that case taking vitamin d supplements or vitamin D rich foods like mushrooms will be helpful. Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear. Thanks.
