Can Removal Of Metal From Arm Delayed Cause Any Effects?

My son is on a waiting list to have the metal work removed from his left arm after quite a serious break last July. At present there is backlog due to lack of beds and i'm concerned that if the wait is too long that the operation will be more difficult and take longer? Is it possible to pay privately and if so how do I find out the cost etc? Thankyou.
