Can Removal Of Mirena Coil Causes Bleeding As Menopausal Women?

I am a menopausal woman who has not had period for ten years, due to having the mirena coil. This was removed in february this year. I have recently well 10 days ago had a loop diathermy and sample taken from my cervix. The bleeding has progressively got heavier. Is this normal?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

After a routine Mirena removal, there should be no symptoms or pain. Some light spotting can occur. Excessive bleeding is not related to the mirena removal and should be evaluated by a gynecologist as soon as possible.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
