Can Right-sided Pain In The Stomach Be Connected To Hernia?

I am having severe pains in my upper right part of my stomach. No fever or vomiting or itching. I hurts when I get in and out of my bed or if my stomach happens to bump against something hard or my cat climbs on top of my stomach. I saw my doctor yesterday and he suggested it may be a hernia or my gallbladder. He wants me to get an MRI.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for postin in HCM.
I have read your description and understand your concern.
Generally, experiencing pain in the upper part of the abdomen on the right side appears to be arising out of gall bladder pathology. Most commonly, it could be due to presence of gall stones.
Hernia usually presents with dull aching pain and dragging sensation, with radiating to the lower extremities, and is more common in the lower part of the abdomen. It can be diagnosed by clinical examination.
If gall bladder pathology needs to be confirmed, it can be done by Ultrasound scan of the abdomen and later further investigated by CT/MRI scan, if necessary.
Kindly get the necessary investigations done and get evaluated clinically by consulting Surgeon for appropriate management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
