Hi, I have been experiencing some uncomfortable chest pains a few hours after choking on some tea. It wasn t a whole lot, but it s enough to make me feel congested like I had a sore throat. All the way through my chest. I can be a hypo. And wanted to know if I could get secondary drowning from this.

Thanks for your question on HCM. In medical terminology Drowning and Choking are different terms. Drowning means submersion of body completely in the water. Choking means obstruction in the wind pipedue to either food, foreign material, clothes or anything. So choking needs obstruction of wind pipe. And in your case tea can choke wind pipe. This will cause inflammation in wind pipe and intense coughing to expel the tea out of body. So this causes edema of wind pipe. And due to this we feel difficulty in breathing, sore throat with congested chest due to sputum. Edema will resolve slowly. So you need to take anti inflammatory drugs with antihistamines. And still you are not relieved I suggest you to consult doctor.
