A couple of years ago I broke out in a rash along my hairline in which my Dr was certain was shingles. My lips kept going numb as well. Well that rash is now back again and even farther back in my hair line line but I dont have numbness in my lips this time. Can you get shingles more then once? I ve been running a low grade fever and for the last week or two all I want to do is sleep. Anita Orton
Hello and welcome to HCM, Shingles can recur and recurrence is common whenever there is fall in immunity. Immunity falls during infections, stress, surgery, etc. The virus causing shingles lies dormant in nerve ganglia and it gets activated when immunity falls. The symptoms of shingles depend on the nerve trunk involved and the dermatome involved. The nerve trunk or the dermatome involved can vary. Thus, tingling sensation and occur in site different from where it occured earlier. Associated fever is further indicative of viral infection. Consult your physician for management of the episode.
