Can Sinus Infection Lead To Bleeding From Nostrils?
Hi. Ive been suffering from a rather brutal sinus infection for about 5 or 6 years now. It comes on strongest during winter and goes dormant during warm weather, But now when I blow my nose theres lots of blood in it. It's on the right nostril and has pungent odor and taste. The left nostril discharges normal mucus,,,I've gone to FEW doctors about it and taken few prescriptions as directed with NO results. I think it's going to eat my sinus's into an oblivion. PLEASE help. It ruins my romantic life as well because Im too self conscious to kiss my girl most times.
Hi and thanks for the query. Have you consulted and ENT ? Has nasal endoscopy been performed to detect the source of blood and the foul smelling discharge ? If not then you ought to get it done. There are many reasons for bleeding from the nose. Few are : 1) Trauma secondary to nose picking . Here usually bleeding is minimal and stops on its own. 2) Infections of the nose. 3) Raised blood pressure. 4) Bleeding disorders. 5) Tumours of the nose and paranasal sinuses. Persistent bleeding from the nose should not be taken lightly. kindly consult an ENT at the earliest and get a nasal endoscopy done. Till then you can instill 10 drops of normal saline 4 times a day and do not blow your nose. Regards Dr Kishori
