Can Sinus Issues Be Related With Nasal Polyps, Double Vision And Ringing In Ear?

Hello, I have been diagnosed with nasal polyps. exactly one year ago this month, I woke with double vision and balance, I was actually walking to the right. My balance was off but only in the one direction. It cleared itself. I had mri done and facial extra. My GP said that nasal polyps were the problem. Never have sinus problems ever in my life time. I have no pain, drips, headaches nothing at all. Just that one balance problem that has never come back. I will go to Ent this week. Also had ringing in right ear that never seems to go away. Other than tired feeling I am feeling okay. Can sinus problems really do this?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Nasal polyps if eroding the bones and giving complications to the brain can cause such symptoms. Nasal infection can go to the ears and thus cause inflammation of inner ear structures like semi-circular canals and cochlea causing tinnitus and imbalance. Hence, I would advise you the following:
- CT with MRI study for tinnitus and vertigo to see any problems with brain, mastoids with cochlea and semicircular canals, status of sinuses, any bone erosion, chances of caner and so on
- Double vision should be seen by an ophthalmologist first so that the cause and further referral if needed can be done by an ENT surgeon
- Medical management for symptomatic relief and specific treatment
- Surgery if indicated and medical management fails

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
