My mother suffers from chronic vertigo. Apparently it's a symptom left over from a bout with the flu nine years ago. Her head is always swimming, as she puts it, and she's always off balance. I happen to know that she also has obstructive sleep apnea, but she never wants to talk about that. My question is...can sleep apnea make vertigo worse, due to hpoxia? If she were tro try CPAP treatment, could that at least improve her symptoms if not cure them?
It is quite possible that vertigo is worsened by sleep apnea. However as your history of veritgo after a bout of flu sounds unrelated. Get a MRI brain for your mother to find out whether there is any lesion in the brain that can cause both vertigo as well as a central apnea and see a neurologist
