Can Smoking Marijuana Be The Reason For Having PCOS, String Of Follicles That Are Very Small?

I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2010. I m now 28 years old and get yearly check ups. I do not take metformin but have been prescribed it. I haven t had a cyst since high school (2000-2004) I smoke marijuana daily. (A bowl a night) My OBGYN says I have a pearl necklace of follicles that are very small. I was wondering if the marijuana was helping at all or if it was something else. Also I want to ask what you would give as a percentage of reproductivity at my age and with my condition. Thank you, Stacey

Hi,

Marijuana can increase your Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) symptoms as it increases one's appetite and makes one take more carbohydrates. This then increases one's weight and insulin resistance, which contribute to the hormonal abnormalities seen in PCOS. So you should cut down your marijuana intake as much as possible. At your age and with your medical history, you have very good chances of getting pregnant. You should not worry and do all in your power to ensure that your PCOS does not worsen.

Best wishes.
