Can Smoking Contribute To Stomach Upset?

My husband, who is 68, has had an upset or acidic stomach frequently during the night for years. He always thinks it was this or that thing that he had for dinner, but the list now is getting pretty long. He also smokes a pack of cigarettes a day and I would like to know if the smoking contributes to his nightly upset stomach.

Hi,

Yes, smoking is a well known cause of acid peptic disease and people with acidity and other gastro-intestinal problems should avoid smoking. You will notice a significant improvement in his gastric symptoms once he quits smoking. Till then, he will have to manage with antacids and similar medicines.

Best wishes.
