Can Spider Bite Causes Sore Breast And Swollen Armpit?

Seems silly now really, 4 years ago I got bitten by something (possibly a spider) in the garden which caused my left hand to swell up with a lot of pain and had to keep it raised for a while. I was living in the USA at the time. Within 1 week my left armpit (around my lymph nodes) started to swell and become tender and sore. I had an ultrasound and everything looked normal. Every month I started to get the cyclical swelling and breast tenderness. I moved back to the UK 3 years (very concious of the NHS failings regarding cancer diagnosis) and in Feb of this year I had a hysterectomy (ovaries intact) and the sweeling has had no rhyme or reason, didn't seem to be following a pattern. Today, my armpit was visibly swollen and quite large and I went to a walk-in clininc and they want me to go to have an ultra-sound again. They said both my breasts were quite lumpy with the left a little more so. I got home and suddenly burst into tears and it dawned on me that maybe it is just my hormones and I am still cycling after the hysterectomy. I also remembered that my breast felt heavy last night after I took my bra off. Maybe I have been cycling all along but didn't notice the pattern because of the lack of periods. Today has been the first day I have been quite emotional for no reason other than fear of cancer since the hysterectomy so I am now adding up the symptoms and am realising that it is probably just hormones causing the underarm left pit to swell so much. It just seems weird to have had a bite and then this reaction started. Is it a coincidence or are they related. Has my body been fighting an infection for 4 years in a cyclical manner or it is just hormones. Is it cancer or am I being overly paranoid. Is is a good idea to have the ultra sound anyway.

OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine 's  Response
Hi,

You need to be very careful as spider contains different venom according to the species, so spider venom can cause these symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sujoy S. Bhattacharjee, OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine
