Can Spot Below The Eye Be Infection?

I am using a bactrin opthalmic ointment on my right eye lower lid since I had a red (pimple?) spot on it. My dermatologist says that he thinks that it is an infection since my eye is somewhat bloodshot. Since using the ointment and doing salt water compresses twice a day for the last 4 days, I really don't see much improvement and my eye itches and creates mucus in the corner of the eye. Should I see my ophthalmologist if I can get in?

Go for one antibiotic medicine course for 3-5 days.
Continue applying Bactrim ophthalmic solution 4-5 times daily.
