Can Stress Lead To Delay In Periods?

Hi, I was wondering why I m late this month. I m worried I might be pregnant. I told that to my boyfriend and he said that I can t be pregnant because he used protection and the condom didn t break. He said it might be because I m stressed out due to the fact that we ve been arguing a lot lately and because of army physical training (I do physical training 2-3 times a week). I m still worried though. Is he correct? I m one 1-2 weeks late. Ps: I ve thought of taking a home pregnancy test, but I m not sure if I should because I am on ani-seizure meds so the results might come out to be false due to the medications I intake.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the stress alteres hypothalamus pituitary axis pathway and effect over uterus as well as ovary to produce hyper or hypo level of LH and FSH, estrogen and progesterone. However, as there was history of intercourse (though protected), I would recommend to take a home urinary pregnancy test here with to reveal more details.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
