Can Stroke Be Related With Tear In Carotid Artery?

My 28 year old son suffered a stroke cause by a small tear in his carotid artery. His doctor wished to know of his family history and when I told him that my uncle had suffered a cerebral heamorage, he said that that was not a stroke. I thaught that they were linked.
