Can Substernal Hemithyroidectomy Causes Coughing?

Hi, I had a large nodule and substernal hemithyroidectomy 1 week ago. Everything seems to be healing fine but I can't stop coughing. My gp agreed I'm coughing but lung sound clear. I think it's acid reflux as its far worse at night. I can hear bubbling in my throat sometimes.
Will it pass or do I need some anti reflux meds?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Noted your history of hemithyroidectomy for substernal goiter with a large nodule one week ago. You GP says that the lungs are clear.
The commonest causes of such a problem are:
Irritation of the vocal cords due to the intubation.
GERD as you say can cause this.
Get an additional PPI like Omeprazole and Domperidone for GERD.
Cough suppressant syrup as coughing is bot good for neck surgery patients.
Consult an ENT Surgeon to get a Laryngo-pharyngoscopy done so that a problem may be identifiable if present.
