Can Suffering From Fits Be A Result Of Bipolar Disorder?
I think my 2yr old may have bipolar disorder. Her father has it and i was told it runs in the family. She has horrible fits that come on all of a sudden maybe every other day. I wouldn't be concered except that its gotten more frequent and she screams like she's being murdered and freaks out flailing her body around. I have to restrain her in my lap so that she doesn't hit her head or hurt herself accidently. After the episode is over she's laying in my arms drenched in sweat and is extremely exhausted. She looks like she could fall asleep but she just cant seem to stop fidgeting and moaning long enough to sleep. It kills me to watch this continue... I need advice what can i do to help my baby.
At the age of 2 having bipolar disorder is difficult to say. None can diagnose or think also as per recent DSM 5 criteria.
But what you have mentioned is something unusual. It may or may not be fits. You should take her to pediatric neurologist. She required EEG monitoring to diagnose the problem.if needed, MRI brain also can be done. If she has fever, it may be febrile convulsion.
Please take your baby to doctor for proper evaluation, diagnosis and treatment. Whatever the problem is there, early intervention is needed for better result and good future of baby.
Hope this information will help you, Regards, Dr.Chintan Solanki.
