Can Swollen And Sprained Ankle Be Due To Hematoma?

I have a SERIOUSLY sprained ankle. There is one section which was the most affected, and 3 weeks later it is swollen, still discolored and extremely sore. I have a walking boot I use when up for a prolonger time or going out; I use ice on it whenever I can and elevate it when lying down and during evening. A medical person (not my dr.) told me I have a hematoma; I undertand that can be pretty serious. May I have your opinion if there is something else I should do?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have swollen and sprained ankle be due to hematoma . Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to may reasons like , but in your case it seems to me that the symptoms are due to hematoma or sometimes there is green stick fracture or soft tissue injury . I would suggest to consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examine . Doctor may order x-ray , CT scan and physical examination . Doctor may prescribe muscle relaxant , fix with plaster , drain the hematoma or recommend physical therapy . For now do not walk , taker proper rest , apply warm compresses and put your foot in hot water tub with spoon of salt for 15 minutes daily .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
