Can Taking Amifru Be Safe For Swollen Ankle?

Hello - I am 50 years of age, jog 30 minutes daily and walk a lot. I am about to take amifru as prescribed due to one swollen ankle that has resulted from taking three injections (cortisone, olfen and morphine) to treat my inter-costal neuralgia. However, I am scared to take the tablets.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, Amifru is safe to be taken for the swollen ankle.

You seem to have developed swollen ankle due to edema caused by the injection steroids & Olfen (diclofenac).

Amifru contains two diuretics (Frusemide 40 mg & Amiloride 5 mg) which are useful in reducing the accumulation of fluids (edema) around the ankles hence can be taken as prescribed by your doctor.
Generally it is a safe medication, however it can cause side effects like fluid and electrolyte imbalance, & ototoxicity (ear problem).
Hope this answers your query.
