General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Gliptins (Linagliptin) is used for treating type 2 diabetes in patients who cannot control blood sugar levels by diet and exercise alone. Fasting blood sugar of 8.4 mmol/L and HbA1c of 7% says that you diabetes is not under effective control.
Hence, doctor has recommended change of drug to 'Komboglyze'.
This medication also contains a Glyptin called Saxagliptin with combination of Metformin. Both of these hypoglycemic drug combination would work better in controlling the blood glucose levels. You need a regular follow-up monitoring of glucose to see how this drug is working for you.
Remember, diabetes cannot be controlled by drugs alone. You need to follow properly prescribed diet and regular exercise to effectively bring down your blood glucose levels to normal and further maintain it.
Hope the information provided would be useful.
All the best.
