Can Taking Lipitor And Warfarin Show False Positive For Codeine?

Hi, I would like to know if by taking 40 mg Lipitor along with warfarin 5mg can cause a false urine drug test to come up positive for codeine. I have not taken any drug with codeine in over a year. I am currently being prescribed 15mg of oxycodone by my pain managenent doctor. I was administered a drug test and it came back positive for codeine! Is this possible? I was informed that my system may be compromised due to a blood disorder. I am currently trying to find a hematologist closer to where I live. Blood clots seem to be hereditary in my family. My mother, 2 brothers, a sister and myself have experienced having blood clots. 2 years ago I was diagnosed with a clot in both of my lungs. Can you please advise me if this drug test could be accurate? Thank you. Ms C

Hi,

Codeine and hydrocodone both are opioids and hence both may give positive results for opioids in urine. Generally, test done by immunoassay may give a false positive result for Codeine also, if patient is taking hydrocodone. In such cases, test of urine may have to be done by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS) method, which will give specific positive result for Codeine or Hydrocodone.
