Can Taking Metronidazole And Hidrasec Be Safe Instead Of Glucolyte For Amoebiasis?
my 1year & 9 months old daughter was diagnosed with amoebiasis. Her pediatrician presrcibed metranidazole & glucolyte. But she will not drink the glucolyte. Instead we mix the Hidrasec with her milk. Is it ok to have metranidazole & hidrasec instead of glucolyte? tnx desperately needs an answer = (
hi thank you for asking your concern madam and welcome to hcm. i would like to assure to if your daughter is active enough to eat and drink then there is no need to force her to drink glucolyte. if she is taking metronidazole then that is sufficient because that is the only treatment for amoebiasis. either you do not give glucolyte or you can give flavoured ORS, any fruit juice, lemon water, coconut water is the best, if she is active enough and not dehydrated then no need to worry. regarding hindrasec i would suggest not to give it because it may create difficulty in clearing amoebic cyst or ova from gut. oral rehydration is the only proven and recommended in case of bacterial or amoebic dysentery apart from antibiotics. if you feel any further doubt please ask us regards dr. abhijit
