Can Taking Pantocid Along With Primaquine And Becosules Be Safe To Cure Malaria?

I was diagnosed with malaria and had been hospitalised over almost a week. Doctor prescribed to follow some medicines namely Becosules(B-complex forte with Vitamine C), Pentacid and Primaquine). Are they ideal for my post recovery? In addition, please give me a piece of advice regarding my recovery session, rest and so on.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome to HCM.
I can understand your concern.

Yes, the medication Primaquine is effective in the treatment of malaria caused by plasmodium vivax.

Malaria caused by plasmodium vivax is initially treated by Chloroquine for a period of 3-5 days, this is to kill the malarial parasites present in the red cells.

The tissue parasites (hypnozoites) remain dormant in liver and are responsible for the recurrent attacks of malaria, these tissue parasites are not killed by Choloroquine. To kill the tissue parasites in the liver, Primaquine drug is prescribed for two weeks following Chloroquine treatment. So, Primaquine helps in total eradication of tissue parasites responsible for recurrent malarial infection.
Bed rest is usually required during the acute attack, recovery occurs after the eradication of tissue parasites (2 weeks).
Pantocid (Pantoprazole) is prescribed to prevent the gastritis caused by anti malarial drugs and Becousles are the vitamin supplements.

Hope this answers your query.
