Can Taking Sodium Valproate Be Safe To Control Seizures?

Hello, I am a doctor from Tanzania currently doing an MSc in Clinical Neurology in the UK (Queen square, Natl Hosp for Neurology and Neurosurgery, London)
My mother (now 67 years old) developed sudden onset seizures 3 years ago and now seems to be developing a rapidly progressive decline in her cognition. She is on Sodium Valproate 200mg (she is about 80kg) and this controls her seizures
