Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Tear In Rotator Cuff Heal Itself Without Surgery?
I tore my rotator cuff about a year ago. The MRI showed about a 2 cm tear. Since the tear, I hve delayed surgery and was wondering at this stage whether I should go ahead and have the surgery done. At present I am 73 and while there is some discomfort at times it has not limited my activities, have almost complete range of motion. Does a tear heal itself or have the surrounding muscles strengthened to accommodate for the tear?
For deciding treatment option, we have to consider severity of symptoms also. If no much pain, ROM is full and no limitation of activities, a regular physiotherapy and muscle strengthening exercise is all that is needed.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
