Can The Ear Drum Deteriorate?

I was recently told I have a half an eardrum in my right ear. I had frequent ear infections in childhood and was almost fitted for hearing aids. I started to hear mastoidley and had been told I had pin holes in each drum as a child after tube placement. Now I have half an ear drum. Could it be deteriating? I can still hear!
