Can Thyroid Be Transferred To Other By Sleeping Together ?

Hi i am having a thyroid scan and uptake done on Thursday and Friday. Is it okay for me to be in contact with my four year old son, he also sleeps with me in the bed most nights. I m trying to decide if I need to arrange a sleepover for him at a friends so he isn t exposed to the radioactivity.

Hi dear
Your concern for your child is totally understandable
I-123 is the usual isotope used to take pictures and determine the activity of the intact thyroid gland (Thyroid Scan and Radioactive Iodine Uptake, RAIU), since it is harmless to thyroid cells. No special radiation precautions are necessary after a thyroid scan or RAIU. so if they are using I-123 for the scan no special radiation precautions are needed.
