Can Thyroid Imbalance Cause Hair Loss?

I got my hair done at a salon tonight and my stylist has been noticing quite a bit of hair loss when shampooing. She asked if I ever had my thyroid checked and that hair loss can sometimes be a symptom of irregular thyroid. Is that true? I m 49 and have noticed my hair falling out! Help! Robyn

Hi Robyn,

Hair loss could be related to thyroid problems. Get thyroid function test together with thyroid ultrasound done.

At your age, the hormonal imbalance is also to consider.

The shampoo that the hair-dresses used might be also another factor to consider.

All the best!
