Can Umbilical Hernia Cause Loss Of Appetite In A Child?

My three and half year old daughter was is not gaining weight and weighs 14kgs .A Dr said she has hernia(umbilical). She has since lost appetite but was given some medication and promised that it will disappear. My worry is the constant weight. She looks sick. Are all these things a result of the hernia?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

No, a hernia is the passage of contents of one cavity in another cavity through a defect. Umbilical hernia would not be the cause of anorexia. Please do take her to a pediatrician for work up.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
