Can Under-active Thyroid Cause Weight Gain And Irregular Periods?

I have symptoms of low thyroid. Gaining weight very easily, almost weekly. Cold sensitivity, hair loss, dry skin, brain/memory fog, heavy periods,. Almost like a like switch since I had my last child 10 years ago. My prescribed thyroid meds, but I d rather treat with diet changes if possible. Is that even possible.? I take a sleeping mineral at night to try to help with sleep. It has Calcium, magnesium, and zinc. Does that affect anything?

Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

You are suffering from hypothyroidism. This is due to decrease secretion of thyroid hormone by your the gland. Treatment was to take thyroxine. Based on the thyroid profile your physician decides the dose. Probably you have to take them lifelong. This problem cannot be treated with diet and compulsorily you have to take the medication. The 'sleeping mineral' does not have any effect on your thyroid.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
