Can Unopened Peanut Candy Bars Cause Itching?

Okay. I have a funny one here, funny in both ways. Yesterday I picked up a bunch of candy I got from a radio station, a year's supply to be exact, as a prize from them. Most of it has peanuts in it. I'm allergic, but figured my husband would take some of what I couldn't eat and maybe keep the rest for Halloween for trick or treaters or otherwise give it away. I actually broke open a couple boxes to give some to someone already, and brought the rest home. Even though some of the boxes have been opened, all the individual packages inside are fully wrapped. And the tiny amount my husband tried last night, he put in a ziplock bag and saved it. That said, is it a pretty safe bet that I'm not feeling itchy on account of this candy since it's fully wrapped anyway? I should also add that my husband always keeps some peanut energy bars in the pantry also, albeit only a couple small cartons rather than about ten of them as in the case of this new addition. The stuff my husband stores isn't a problem for me. What do you think of this?

Hello,

Thank you for asking at HCM.

I went through your history and would like to make suggestions for you as follows:

1. Yes, for persons with peanut allergy, this is very much possible. Wrappers of peanut chocolates contain particles of peanuts which upon coming with contact with skin can cause such small reactions.

2. Another possibility is the wrapper may contain some chemicals (preservatives, coloring agents, others, etc) which can irritate skin some some persons.

So, in nutshell, it is possible.

Hope above information will help you.

Thank you & Regards.
