Can Using Avamys Nasal Spray Trigger The Height Growth In Children?

Dear Doctor, My son is now 4 years old and has been having, cold and flu very often for around 2 years. One of the paediatrician I took my son to, used to give him antibiotics every time (for almost a year), after getting FED up using antibiotics for so long, I took my son to another paediatrician, who declared it to be case of sinus. He recommended AVAMYS spray for use, twice daily. It has been eight months I ve been using it, and the results are very effective. My question now is how long do I ve to use it continuously for. Also I see that the rate of height growth has sort of decreased after using AVAMYS, is it a side-effect or is it not completely related to using AVAMYS. Thanks and Regards, Param

Hello,

Since you have been using Avamys nasal spray(corticosteroid) for your son for eight months, this period is too long & your son is experiencing side effects of the same.

Long term use of this medication may result in weight loss or affect growth in children & adolescence. It may interfere with wound healing, vision problems, liver disorders.

Do not get dependent on the medication. It is usually taken for one or two weeks till the symptoms subside. Talk to your treating doctor so that the dose of spray can be slowly tapered & stopped.

Get your son physically examined & treated for sinusitis. If he is fine, he may not require any treatment.
