Hello, and I hope I can help you today.

If you can feel the loop itself, and not the string that is attached to it to ease removal, it is possible that the device had slipped into your cervical canal.

When this happens, it is important to see a healthcare provider to evaluate you because if part of the IUD is protruding into the vagina, it decreases it's effectiveness as well as putting you at risk for infection.

So in summary, if you can feel the IUD itself, it may have been partially expelled and it needs to be removed. You should not have sex again with your partner until you are evaluated to decrease the risk of infection.

I hope I was able to adequately answer your question today and that you seek medical care promptly.

Regards,

Dr. Brown
