Can Vitamin B12 Deficiency Cause Peripheral Neuropathy?
Good morning, I have mild perpheral neuropathy which was detected by nerve conduction test. I had gone to the doctor for burning feet. My B12 level was very low so I was advised to take 12 neurobion Forte injection over a period of 3 months. I was also given 4 high potency B12 injections initially as injections were recommended instead of capsules due to my Vitiligo - doctor said absorbtion will be low thru oral tablets. I am also taking 1 tab of Gabapin NT 500 in the night. Initially the burning feet sensation reduced dramatically. But after 6 months of stopping the injections, I have started getting mild burning sensation in my feet. Do I take another dose of injection ? Which injection do you recommend and how many ?
Hello, Peripheral neuropathy can be caused by a number of conditions such a uncontrolled diabetes, deficiency of certain vitamins like B12, B6, thiamine & folic acid. There are no exact causes those can be attributed for it. However, if low B12 levels is noticed then it could be a major reason. Since taking B12 had improved the condition, you may continue to take the same again. Please be sure that you have no diabetes, because that can be a major cause for peripheral neuropathy. Thanks.
