Can Vitamin D Deficiency Cause Swelling In Ankles And Pain In Calves?
I WAS RECENTLY DIAGNOSED WITH A VITAMIN D DEFICIENCY. IN JANUARY, I WAS PLACED ON 2,000 MCG AND THEN LAST WEEK, 50,000 MCG FOR 12 WEEKS. I HAVE NOTICED IN THE PAST 4 DAYS OR SO, MY ANKLES KEEP SWELLING, TO THE POINT OF HAVING PAIN UP THROUGH MY CALVES. I AM NOT WORKING RIGHT NOW, SO IM NOT ON MY FEET A GREAT DEAL. I DON T ADD SALT TO MY DIET AND MY HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE IS UNDER GOOD CONTROL. ANY THOUGHTS AS TO WHY MY ANKLES ARE SWELLING. I HAVE BEEN ELEVATING THEM FOR A COUPLE HRS AT A TIME, AND THIS IS HELPING. YYYY@YYYY
The commonest causes of swelling around ankles and calf are are as below. Hypo-proteinemia is the commonest and then there are varicose veins, anemia, or renal / kidney problems.
You should go for clinical evaluation and examination by a doctor. Investigations of blood like CBC, Liver function is proteins, kidney functions, thyroid functions and as advised by your Doctors. Color doppler of both lower limbs. All these will get us an exact cause and thus help in specific treatment as per the cause found.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
