Can Vitamin D Supplements Cause Pseudogout?

I have had an attack (my first) of pseudogout that has lasted over three weeks. After a recent back surgery (six weeks ago), my physician prescribed 4000 units of vitamin D, to aid bone growth. Could that be associated with the pseudogout attack? Sheila

Hi,

No, this will not cause pseudogout. Be assured. Pseudogout has nothing to do with calcium, vitamin D.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Varinder Joshi, General & Family Physician
