Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
As your husband is 43 years old, there is high chances of Type II
Diabetes.
You have to first understand the pathophysiology of diabetes.
When Type II diabetes is diagnosed in anybody, beta cells in endocrinal part of
pancreas has already been reduced or destroyed (bu autoimmune mechanism) up to 20%.
These beta cells can not be revived and few trials are in pipe line with use of
umbilical cord stem cells.
So once diabetes is diagnosed, your husband has to take treatment.
Diabetes is diagnosed when fasting blood sugar is > 126 mg% and postprandial sugar is > 200 Mg%.
Your husband is fulfilling the diagnostic criteria of diabetes and hence he has to take treatment.
Diet control is supportive and helps in control of sugar but diet alone is not satisfactory.
Presently, diabetic patient has to take Medical nutritional therapy (MNT). He can take each and every thing but the diet is decided by total calorie intake.
You should consult with internal medicine specialist for diet and treatment.
Take care,
