Can Withdrawing 100 Mg Daily Of Metoprolol Taken For 6 Yrs Cause Symptoms Like Shakiness And Racing Heart Beat?

Yes, thank you - I was recently taken off of Metoprolol, had been taking it for about six years, 100 mg daily.. eventually my heart rate became so low I was taken off of the med. Cold Turkey. I felt horrible, shaking sort of a head ache, and the most scary, racing heart & irregular heart beat, at rest 130 - when I went to see a heart specialist she seemed Not to recognize this as withdrawl symptoms? I had looked it up myself? She was insisting on me explaining the shakiness, what was it like what do you mean shaky knees etc. All this was scary to me, & I believe my family doctor was remiss in taking me off of this cold turkey??/ Do doctors not relize the implications that this drug has these awful & maybe dangerous side affects? Thank you.

I have gone through your query.Stopping metaprolol can cause dysrhythmic or hypertensive episodes.You should not stop in all of a sudden.The dose can be reduced step by step.Your heart and blood vessels are adapted to it.So it needs time.100mg is a big dose.The dose can be reduced to 50 then 25 like that.Hope this may help you.
