Can You Suggest A Natural Remedy To Lower Triglyceride Levels?

Hello Doctor, I am 35 years old. I am living in the US and i am a software engg. I have a decent active life style and i weigh 180 Lbs. I have a history of high triglycerides. I have been taking Omega 3 twice a day (well. not that regular, but, I do take mostly at least once a day). Now, my recent regular checkup again told i have a high triglyceride (371). My LDL and HDL are ok. I am advised to start Omega3 regularly, and continue exercise. I will follow my exercise schedule again well, but, is there a natural way of reducing this in addition to exercise? I am vegetarian and I do not smoke and do not drink alcohol at all.

In order to reduce your triglycerides naturally, you need to carefully review your diet.

Avoid too much of oily and fatty foods. Even if you are a vegetarian, you must ensure that your total fat intake in a day should not be more than 3-4 tsp of oil used in cooking and avoid butter, ghee, margarine etc. Use low fat or skimmed milk instead of full cream milk.

Avoid fried foods, read food labels for fat content as most of the packaged foods have hidden fats for eg. sugar free cookies maybe high in fat, baked products also have a high fat content, foods like ice creams, nuts, dried fruits also have hidden fats.

Avoid processed and refined foods as refined carbohydrates like sugars and starches also raise triglyceride levels. Opt for whole grain cereals and complex carbohydrates in the form of fresh fruits and vegetables as raw salads. Do not use fat rich sauces, salad dressings like mayonnaise.

Go for low fat milk/buttermilk and vegetable juices instead of fruit juices even without sugar and carbonated drinks. Avoid sweets, candies, jams and jellies and other sugar containing foods.
