Can Zika Encephalitis Reoccur Again After Changing Places?

I have just recovered from a bout of Zika encephalitis contacted a month ago. At the time of infection I was living in Jamaica. I have since moved back to the USA. Do I now have immunity against a second bout of encephalitis. I am 70 years old and lived in the Caribbean for the past 20 years so as a result I have limited insurance and can t afford hospitalization.

Hello,

It is unlikely as you will get a transient immunity to the virus.

However, it is always better to avoid contact.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
