Cause For ALT And AST Level To Double Suddenly?

My ALT and AST level went from normal to double what they should be. They are coming down. Last showed my AST was normal. My ALT is slowing coming down. I have been tested for Hepatitis ABC and also autoimmune live test. All were negative. My sonogram showed a fatty liver. I am slender and I do not drink a lot. He advised me to take vitamin E. Is it possible that it is something else.

Hello
Thanks for writing to HCM

Increased SGPT indicates liver injury.
Increase in SGPT may be due to many reasons like hepatitis, alcohol intake, altered lipid profile, medicines, auto immune causes etc.
In your case, increased SGPT may be related to altered lipid profile as you have fatty liver in USG.

You need few more investigations like random blood sugar(RBS),renal function test(RFT),Lipid profile,GGT level, viral markers, complete liver function test, urine RE/ME.

You should avoid red meat and high fat milk products.
You should avoid fried and junk food and avoid alcohol completely.

Fatty liver a reversible condition. You should modify your diet and life style. You should increase your physical activity. You should go for walking and exercise.

Medicines should be prescribed after complete investigations.
I suggest my patients to take tablet ursodeoxycholic acid 300 mg twice daily after food for three months. This help in regeneration of liver cells.

Get well soon.
Hope I have answered your question.

Take Care
