I was taken off beta blocker 25mg//welchol 6 tabs a day//because one physcian thought I had thyroid issues. The endocrinoloist said no, your thyroid levels are great, ultrasound great and follow up with blood panel in six weeks.
meanwhile, I am experiencing shortness of breath, chest discomfort/flutter at times and chest pain. I told the nurse of my cardiologist, and the cardiologist wants to take one medicine at a time. But, I had been taking motroplol for past 1 1/2 years and don't feel well past two weeks. I was on synthroid for 12 days and off directly when told by endocrinologist that all clear. What is your advice as I am exhausted//cannot exercise due to breathing and later chest discomfort?
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic. I can understand your situation and problem.. Your all these symptoms are due to sudden stoppage of beta blocker. You are taking metoprolol. It is Cardio selective beta blocker. And you are taking it in very high dose. Sudden stoppage of this drug can cause withdrawal symptoms. You need to gradually taper it down like 5 tablets for 10 days than 4 tablets for next 10 days, than 3 tablets for next 10 days than 2 tablets for 10 days and lastly 1 tablet for 10 days. By doing this, your body will slowly adjust to decreasing dose of metoprolol and so withdrawal symptoms will be less. So consult doctor and discuss all these. Hope I have solved your query. Wish you good health. Thanks.
