Chest Pain At Night. Your Thoughts?

Last night I was awakened with very tight chest pain...it felt like someone was crushing my chest...this has happened before (most recent and for the first time about 4 weeks ago) but each time it seems to subside after several minutes. Last night I had the tightness/crushing feeling several times with short intervals before I fell sleep again. I'm 50 yrs old and would consider myself in good health. I walk 2+ miles, 3-4 times a week. I I would really appreciate your thoughts on what this could be? Many, many thanks in advance

Hi,
From history it seems that there might be having some cardiac ailment like Angina or some coronary insufficiency.
Go for EKG and rule out any cardiac problem.
Avoid strain and take rest.
Ok and take care.

Internal Medicine Specialist Dr. Akhilesh Dubey's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic,
Your description of chest pain suggest possibility of cardiac origin so first step would be not to ignore it and seek medical attention and getting an ECG done would let us know is there is any thing related to heart if so proper therapy and hospitalization may be required.

If ECG is normal then also this should be properly investigated and cause should be determined like a 2 D Echocardiography and TMT .

If it is not cardiac then other possibilities are Acid peptic disorder with reflux, Muscular pain, Lung infection or even anxiety may be behind such symptoms.
I would suggest you to consult Physician for proper assessment and diagnosis and treatment would depend on cause.
In such test Lipid profile, Blood sugar level and liver and kidney functions is also required.

Hope this information is helpful to you.
Take care.
Good Luck.
