Child Born With Pulmonary Valve Stenosis. Have Frequent Nosebleeds. Is It Related To Congenital Heart Defects?
My 9 yr old was born with pulmonary valve stenosis (balloon valvuloplasty at 3 wks old), two ASD's & two VSD's (closed on their own), and developed sub aortic membrane stenosis (required open heart surgery at age 2). To date, her heart is healthy from her cardiologist standpoint. My concern is that she has been having nosebleeds every couple of months for last few years. Sometimes the nose bleeds seem pretty intense. My question is, might her nose bleeds in any way be related to her congenital heart defects?

I am thrilled to hear that that her cardiologist has given her a clean bill of health. It is not likely that the nosebleeds are related to her cardiac history. Nose bleeds are fairly common. If they are happening frequently and are heavy, I recommend seeing an ENT for an exam. In some cases, they can cauterize the nasal mucosa (a simple in office procedure) which can prevent future episodes.
