Child Diagnosed With Add. Cure?

my son is 15 years old. when he was young he was diagnosed with add. he has been taking regularly concerta ...however, this doesn t seem to help him because his school exams shows further deterioration. Both my husband and i consider him to be a smart person...i have gone through his test and found that he can pass his test....but when it comes to mid exam and year end exams. he will fail miserably, scoring mostly d s and e s....he showed little interest in studies. he says what is the point of studying if he can t remember what he studied. His only interest is his guitar. other things he has no interest or care...he is going to sit for his important exam in october and i have also lost out on options in encouraging him. I have sent him for motivation talks and he will be motivated but only for a short time...please, what other options do i have/

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello,
welcome to Healthcare Magic.

In your son case he is having poor response with Concerta and his academic performance is not improving.

In such cases following steps will be helpful:
-Assessment to rule out specific learning disorder (SLD), as this condition is very common in ADD children, which affect study.
-Promote 1 to 1 study, as ADD person respond poorly for group teaching.
-Increase in doses of Concerta after re evaluation by psychiatrist.

Wish you good health and all the best.

Regards,
Dr Ashish Kumar Mittal
