Hi If your child is not able to make friends, this alone is not sufficient to make a diagnosis of depression. the fact that he is doing well in studies is an indicator that he may not be suffering from depression, the disease . This will always affect the child in global spheres like social, family, scholastic and physical. I think he needs some counselling to improve upon social skills useful for making friends. These can be skills of communication, anger management , assertiveness etc.

GOOD LUCK
