Child Prescribed Cylindrical Lenses With -1.5 And -2.5 In Eyes For Vision From Distance. Is This Normal?

Hi Doctor,
Our son is only 3.5 years old and has been prescribed cylindrical lenses with -1.5 and -2.5 in the eyes, seems bit odd for the young age, he was complaining about vision from a distance. What's your suggestions, do you think that we should for other opinion, what will be the complication in future considering his young age.

Hello,
It seems from the history that your child is prescribed cylindrical lenses with -1.5 and -2.5 dioptres. This is myopic astigmatism.
He needs to wear spectacles as visual impairment in the age group between 6 months to 6 years will lead to ambylopia. Hence he should wear spectacles regularly and see that he gets eyes checked once in 6 months to look for any change in the refractive error.

Power of -1.5 and -2.5 dioptre is actually high for this age and it is better to get second opinion .

Thank you
