Child Suffering With Vitiligo, Prescribed With Decaris. Is It Safe For A Long Term?

Hi Doctor, my daughter is 3.5 years old. She was detected with Vitiligo , when she was 1.d yrs old. We have consulted many doctors on this problem but never get any satisfactory reply. Later on, we were told that this is not contagious or infectious but since studies are still in progress on this problem and as such there is no firm treatment to take care Vitiligo. Doctor(s) also adviced to give her Decaris ,2 tab per week. My question are (1) is there any treatment to reduce this Vitiligo? (2) is Decaris harmful,if we keep giving her for long time/ side effect?

Hi Sameer,
Vitiligo is a disease having multiple theories to explain its origin. Autoimmunity is the most popular one.
You are right in saying that it is non-contagious and non-infectious.
At any moment when it starts progressing, by prescribing treatment we can stop progression. But it is difficult to say about the regression of the vitiligo lesions. Even after total recovery, the disease may come at any stage of life.
Dicaris is prescribed twice weekly. It is prescribed for a couple of months together. There are other drugs also.
Consult a dermatologist and keep in mind about the nature of disease.
Patience, faith in doctor and regular follow up pays the most in this disease.
