Child With Braces, Having Red Sore Bumps On Lower Labial Fraenulum. Solution?

Hi Dr. A Chakraboty, I have a 13 year old daughter with braces and for the last few days she has had 3 white bumps on her lower labial frenulum. The area around it is sore and red . So are her lower gums in that area. She s tried putting Witch Hazel on it with q-tip,and cotton balls. We ve also tried salty warm water. What do you recommend. Please help.

Use salt water gargles to rinse your mouth with. Salt works as a mild and natural antibacterial. You can avoid some kinds of food such as syrupy, sugary, acidic that aggravate the buildup of bacteria in the mouth, allow plaque and tartar to build up and also to irritate the mouth and give rise to mouth ulcers

Hi,
Thank you for the query.
White bumps about what your talking are ulcers formed because of the braces impingment or lack of proper diet leading to vitamin deficiency or stress related. This can be cured by taking multivitamin tablets for 10 days and warm salt water rinses and application of topical anesthetic will help in taking food without any pain .The area should be kept clean not allowing any food lodgment or plaque deposition which may irritate the gums leading to infection of ulceration .
Hope this information will help you.

Hello there and welcome to HCM,
The orthodontic wiring on the lower teeth is impinging the adjacent oral tissue which is irritating the tissue leading to redness ,it may also progress to ulceration. consult your orthodontist and check for any loose wiring ends or sharp brackets that are impinging.
At home you can apply dentogel, a antiseptic anesthetic gel that helps in healing n provides numbing effect. regular mouth rinsing with antiseptic mouth wash or lukewarm saline water gives soothing effect, Start with vitamin b and vitamin c supplements that helps in quick healing, avoid spicy and hot food, drink lots of water. i hope that helps , take care.
